چکیده

Introduction Copper is an essential cofactor for several enzymes that catalyse many biochemical reactions crucial for normal cell physiology. Its ability to accept and donate single electrons as it changes oxidation state between Cu+ and Cu2+—that is, Cu(I) and Cu(II), respectively— makes copper an ideal biological cofactor; however, this ability also allows it to readily catalyse the formation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) through Fenton chemistry when unbound within the cell. Several specific trafficking pathways have evolved to ensure that most copper ions in the cell are either compartmentalized or protein bound, thereby maximizing the trade-off between their biological utility and toxicity. These pathways include Cu(I)-binding metallochaperones that shuttle copper to different subcellular sites for storage or the assembly of cupro-enzymes, and copper permeases and effluxers that act in a coordinated manner to modulate intracellular copper concentration within a relatively narrow range. The Alghero conference highlighted progress in characterizing the function of copper permeases and the molecular genetic regulation of cellular copper levels. The importance of copper in neurobiology and the etiology of several neurological syndromes were also addressed, together with exciting new discoveries that link copper to both the immune response and programmed cell death.

Investigation the effect of copper nanoparticles on the toxicity and migration of keratinocyte cells

Background: Re-epithelialization has an important role in skin wound healing. Delays in re-epithelialization are more likely to create the chronic wound. Impaired wound healing leads to a large burden of morbidity and mortality. Current treatments based on the use of autografts, allografts and xenografts, suffer from limitations such as, quantity of donor skin available, donor-site infection, p...

Comparative Studies on the Interaction of Proteinase-K with Nano-CuO and Copper Ions

The interaction of copper oxide nanoparticles and copper ions and proteinase K from Tritirachium album Limber has been investigated employing UV spectroscopy and kinetics measurements. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of nanoparticles of CuO for proteinase K. In this paper we compare the effect of copper oxide nanoparticles with the effect of copper ions on proteinase K sta...

Study on the accumulation of heavy metals (cadmium, copper, iron, tin, arsenic, lead and mercury) in the Indian white shrimp (Penaeus indicus) muscle tissue in Chabahar Bay, Bris and Pasabandar

Shrimps are one of the most important seafood sources for humans. Heavy metals accumulated in the body of shrimp can be transmitted to humans in the food chain. The present study was done in 2017 to compare the accumulation of heavy metals Copper (Cu), Iron (Fe), Lead (Pb), Cadmium (Cd), Tin (Sn), Arsenic (As) and Mercury (Hg) in edible tissue of Indian white shrimp in the fishing grounds of th...
